Go-Kan-Ryu Karate (GKR) is a traditional Japanese style of karate. GKR was founded by Robert Sullivan in Adelaide, South Australia. Robert first began training in the art of karate in 1964, and spent time training and teaching in both Japan and the USA before establishing GKR in 1984. GKR Karate is taught in a non-contact environment and promotes both character and physical development. GKR is a club for all ages and promotes self-defence, fitness, coordination, discipline, confidence and stress relief. People of all walks of life can train together and learn the art of karate in a safe, fun and encouraging environment.

Kancho Robert Sullivan is the Founder of Go-Kan-Ryu (GKR) Karate. Kancho Robert is an 8th Dan Black Belt, & has been training in and teaching karate since 1964.
Born in 1947, Robert spent most of his early life growing up in Gosford, New South Wales. At the age of 17, his fascination for karate led him to begin training in the Japanese style of Goju-Kai. Over the next decade he spent most of his time studying 2 of the most prominent Japanese styles of Karate, Goju & Keishinkan (Shotokan). He spent time in Malaysia, Japan and the USA learning & teaching karate.
He returned home to Australia from America in December, 1971 to marry and begin his family. In 1984, with 20 years experience behind him, he started Go-Kan-Ryu karate. His original aim was to build a small karate club, but he soon realised that teaching karate was something that would become his life long vocation.
Today Robert Lives in Sydney, Australia with his wife Donna. They have four children, Matt, Laura, Lee & Toni
