The company started trading as Roger E Dohnt & Associates Pty Ltd in July 1989. For three years prior to this, Roger Dohnt was the manager and principal structural engineer of Morgan Talbot & Associates, a long established consulting engineering firm in Penrith.
In 1994 it was decided to change the name of the practice to Inhouse Consulting Engineers Pty Ltd. This was designed to form a new trading name that reflected our business plan, and to improve the delegation of clients to our other senior engineers and thereby improve the standard of service to our clients.
In 1998, the directors made a deliberate change in the direction of the company and downsized the practice to just two people operating from a home office.
Then in 2010, exceptional growth in the company’s workload required extra staff and expansion into new, much larger office premises in the commercial area of Kingswood.
We have continued working towards building the business with a great team of experienced staff. In 2015 we now have a team of 3 Senior Engineers, 1 Junior Engineer, 1 Stormwater Engineer and 2 experienced design draftspersons along with our great secretarial, admin and book keeping staff.
Inhouse Consulting Engineers Pty Ltd operates a professional office in Kingswood. Over and above the usual office furniture and fittings of a consulting engineering office, we have five fully networked computers with associated laser and inkjet printers, scanners and plotters. We also have an AO size plain paper plan copier/scanner/plotter. Administrative computer software consists of Microsoft Office Professional, BillQuick and MYOB. Structural design software consists of TEDDDS, S-Frame & P-Frame.
All drafting is carried out using AutoCad software. The company currently has two four‑wheel drive vehicles, for access to difficult sites. We have basic tools for soil sampling and testing for foundations (hand auger, hand and dynamic cone penetrometer). Soil samples taken from site can be tested for specific parameters at a local independent NATA registered soil laboratory as required.
We also have a laser levelling station and accessories that we primarily use for measuring deflections in structural elements. Other specialised testing equipment is accessible for hire as necessary.
