Irwinconsult set the bar extraordinarily high from the very beginning.

The year was 1953, and with Melbourne preparing for its first Olympic Games, a robust consortium of designers – including Bill Irwin – won the design competition for the most coveted project of the time – the Melbourne Olympic Pool.

This remarkable debut performance embodied the spirit of teamwork, competitiveness and world-class performance that was to shape the founding principles of Irwinconsult. Landmark projects requiring a superior level of engineering innovation quickly became our forte. The Academy of Science Dome, the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and BHP House cemented our reputation as engineers who continually push the boundaries of design excellence.

The opening of our Darwin office in 1964 saw us become an integral part of this burgeoning city. From Defence to Indigenous projects, our commitment to this unique territory remains to this day.

The evolution of our vision continues to embed itself into the Australian landscape with such iconic projects as Canberra and Darwin’s Parliament Houses and in Melbourne, the new Royal Children’s Hospital, the Stock Exchange Building and numerous residential and high-rise developments in the rapidly expanding Docklands precinct.
